Cree people didn’t really make these in the past. They observed how the Inuit made them and learned from them. It was used for cleaning frozen caribou, beaver and bear hides. We called them “sparrow knives” because that’s exactly how they were shaped. The bird had the name first, and when the Cree saw the Inuit knife, they named it after the shape of the bird.
