Fleshers were used to remove the tissue from caribou, beaver and moose hides, and sometimes caribou leg-skins. We made fleshers from the femur or humerus of the bear or caribou and a piece of wood. We weighted these tools with a small section of black spruce pole, to which a strip of cloth or hide was attached.
