The Cree women didn’t know how to make the sealskin bags. So we would ask the Inuit women for them and then eventually we learned from them how to make them ourselves. The first models were made with sealskin, but then we started making them with caribou hide. We would tan it and make the bags with these hides. Different families created their own style of bag and then others would copy the styles they liked.
